In November 2023, Michelle Robben and her team opened the doors of Maintrain in Hilvarenbeek. What began as a promising concept quickly grew into a great success. Since January 2025, Michelle has been running the gym together with her partner, Job Verhoeven. In May 2025, the expansion into the building next door was completed, creating one large facility. Michelle and Job tackled this project side by side, with Job quite literally rebuilding the entire space with his own hands. Lifemaxx was given the exciting opportunity to design and equip this new facility, resulting in a modern gym that fits seamlessly with the Maintrain concept.
Michelle explains: “Our concept was already doing very well, and with the expansion we were able to focus more on personal training and online coaching, while still keeping our members training with us in the gym. It’s a kind of total package. Job mainly focuses on personal training and online coaching, while I concentrate more on group classes. That way, we complement each other perfectly.”
In addition to personal training and online coaching, Maintrain offers group classes in Hyrox and functional fitness, complemented by smaller sessions such as Basics, Core & Control and Weightlifting. Michelle proudly highlights: “Back in November 2023, we were one of the first Hyrox gyms in the region, and now we’re probably one of the biggest.”
The choice for Lifemaxx
When it came to outfitting the gym, Maintrain chose Lifemaxx. “Great equipment, strong value for money, and really good communication with our account manager. Lifemaxx could provide virtually everything we needed for our gym.”
That choice turned out to be spot on. Michelle says: “100%. We really wanted a tall rig, as we’ve got the ceiling height for it. Lifemaxx gave great input, especially around the installation. The building has underfloor heating, so it wasn’t possible to drill into the floor. They looked at the options with us, and that’s how we arrived at the current set-up.”
Process and collaboration
Furnishing the gym was an intensive but inspiring process. “Lifemaxx drew up several designs, also in collaboration with Matrixx. We based our final layout on that. What I really value is the collaboration and speed.showing us what it could look like, and thinking in terms of opportunities and solutions instead of just saying, ‘hm, that probably won’t work’.”
