Some gyms feel different the moment you walk in. Not just because of the equipment or the layout, but because of the energy within the space. Hybrid Performance in Zaandam is exactly that kind of gym. A fully HYROX and performance-focused facility, designed and equipped by Lifemaxx.
Behind the gym are Mauk Moerman and Jessye Griffioen, also owners of Gym Zuyd. While Gym Zuyd focuses mainly on functional fitness and group training, Hybrid Performance is fully dedicated to strength training, HYROX and performance training.
“We want to create a place where people can truly work on their health and performance without feeling like just another number.”
The opening of a second location did not happen overnight. Their community increasingly asked for strength training, hybrid training and HYROX-focused workouts. At the same time, the ambition to create something new continued to grow.
“Our first location became busier and busier, and we noticed the needs of our members were changing. When the space below us became available, we immediately knew this was the right moment.”
A gym designed for HYROX and performance training
With Hybrid Performance, Mauk and Jessye did not simply want to open another gym. They wanted to create a space that perfectly matches the way people want to train today. Every detail was carefully considered: routing, training flow, equipment selection and atmosphere.
“We’re not selling group classes, we’re selling an experience. The moment people walk in, the space should feel motivating and energising.”
That vision can be seen throughout the gym. From the large sprint track and extensive strength area to the custom Crossmaxx® XL Rig setup and HYROX-specific training equipment. The large windows and open layout give the space a unique atmosphere and a strong identity.
For Lifemaxx, the focus was not only on supplying equipment, but also on helping create the bigger picture.
“Lifemaxx has a lot of experience with these types of facilities and really thought along with us throughout the process. Communication was quick, agreements were kept and that makes a huge difference during a project like this.”
From training flow to atmosphere: every detail matters
According to Mauk and Jessye, a well-designed training space is about far more than simply placing equipment inside a room.
“A smart layout allows members to train comfortably and helps coaches work more efficiently. In the end, that directly impacts both the experience and the results of your members.”
What perhaps stands out most about Hybrid Performance is the atmosphere. Despite its professional look and performance-driven setup, the gym still feels personal and welcoming — exactly as intended.
“We want people to feel welcome the moment they walk in and instantly feel motivated to train. The energy of the space should strengthen that feeling.”
Although the gym has only recently opened, Mauk and Jessye are already looking ahead.
“We want to keep growing without losing our personal approach. Our focus is on continuing to build the community, developing our coaches and establishing a strong name within the HYROX and fitness world. And who knows, maybe more locations will follow in the future.”
